Robin Huffman for Supervisor!

There was a fine article about Robin Huffman declaring her run for Butte County District 5 Supervisor in yesterday's Paradise Post. Main headline on the front page! If you didn't get the paper you can read it at http://www.paradisepost.com/localnews/ci_6690554

Supporting Robin's candidacy sounds like a perfect RDW action.

Meeting Notes ~ Aug. 20, 2007

What an impressive group at the first *official* meeting of the Ridge Democratic Women! First, many thanks to Sue Wild for getting us the POA library, to Robin and Louise for bringing cookies and drinks, to Louise for creating and maintaining our web calendar, to Karen for getting an announcement in the Paradise Post Calendar, to Sharon for bringing a "kitty can" (I am JUST "getting" that as I type), and of course to Jaime O'Neill for including us in his newspaper column!

Here are a few notes from the meeting. If you have anything to add, or any questions to ask, please feel free to use the 'comment' link at the end of this post.

During our Round Robin introductions, many community issues were referenced, including water, roads, growth, schools, police, safe food sources, air quality, tourism, public transportation, and fire issues, including neighborhood burning. In other words.... just about everything!

We learned a little about Butte County's General Plan, and a copy of that plan was distributed for people to look at.

Everyone got a handful of bookmarks to distribute in the community.

We had a lively discussion that touched on most of the issues noted above. I think I speak for more than myself when I say it was refreshing to be in the company of such a diverse but focused group of women, and that among us there is a great deal of excitement, desire for change, and interest in being active.

Some important dates were noted:

Aug. 23 - 26 ~ Butte County Fair
Aug. 23 & Sept. 11 ~ Paradise Town Council meeting
Aug. 21 ~ Paradise School Board meeting
Sept. 6 ~ Citizens Advisory Committee; 5-9 pm; Little Chico Creek School
Sept. 18 ~ Paradise Area Ad Hoc meeting; 10:00 am; Paradise Town Hall

Please be sure to occasionally check the calendar link (on the left side of this page, in the sidebar) to keep abreast of community meetings and other important dates. If you have something to add to the calendar, please feel free to use the link on the calendar page to send it to Louise and she'll add it to the calendar.

And we have a short list of Action Items:

Butte County Fair: Margie & Alma will be working in the Democratic Club booth; Louise will prepare a RDW poster for display.
Bookmarks: everyone is asked to distribute bookmarks in the community
Blog/Website: everyone with Internet access is encouraged to sign on to the blog; Renee will send official invitations to join the blog as a 'member' of the blog group, to everyone who gave an email address.

Louise suggested that at our next meeting we do a brainstorm session about what kinds of actions we can take. This suggestion was received enthusiastically, so let's plan on it!

Otherwise, please spread the word, participate in the blog through the comment feature or as a post writer, check the community calendar.... and....

Get Involved!
See you at the next meeting!
